Colion Noir Videos

Just a quick note to let you know that I have posted a bunch of links to Colion Noir YouTube videos to the message board on Self-Defense-Handguns.com. They’re well worth watching.

If you’re not familiar with Colion Noir, let  me tell you, he’s a very interesting guy. He’s in his early/mid-20s and looks like he could be a gangbanger (though his baseball cap is worn turned around toward the front), if a gangbanger could be well-groomed, squared-away, and obviously, extremely intelligent.

About two and half years ago, Colion began posting videos on YouTube with titles like “.45 ACP Guns and the People Who Carry Them” – brilliant, funny stuff. A 9mm carrier himself, however, he’s an equal opportunity lampooner, because he also did a video titled “9mm Guns and the People Who Carry Them” that’s just as witty. (Maybe moreso, because in this case he’s poking fun at himself.) When he’s trying to be funny, he succeeds; this guy has the timing and presentation of a standup comedian. This swiftly segued into videos on political/gun control issues, displaying the same vicious wit. Some of his videos have been watched over 800,000 times.

Just recently, he passed the Texas bar. Also just recently he was hired by the NRA which is now producing Colion Noir videos. This has led to the inevitable attacks from the left calling him “a paid NRA spokesperson,” “Uncle Tom,” (which I find more than a little incredible) and that he’s only saying what he’s saying because the NRA is paying him to. They’re kind of getting the cart before the horse there, and conveniently ignoring the fact – assuming they’re knowledgeable enough to actually know it – that Colion was saying what he was saying for years before the NRA showed up.

The fear, of course, was that once the NRA started producing his videos they’d co-opt his talent, control his output, and he’d lose the vicious wit and edginess that made him a success to start. Thus far, that doesn’t seem to be happening. The voice, the message, is the same, the only differences I can see are (1) there’s a little less swearing – I say “a little” because there wasn’t that much profanity in his stuff to start with, (2) as you’d expect, he’s tending to focus more on political/gun control issues than coming out with more funny stuff, (3) they’re more slickly produced than when he was doing it all himself.

That’s all fine. I just hope we’ll also be seeing more funny stuff like “.45 ACP/9mm Guns and the People Who Carry Them” in the future, as well, even if he has to put it together himself.
