Called up the Sportco gun counter to ask about their primer prices. The conversation went something like this:
Me: “Hey, do you have any Federal Small Magnum Pistol primers in stock? That would be product code No. 200.”
Them: “No, we don’t have any 200s in stock.”
Me: “Okay, do you have any of the standard Federal Small Pistol primers?”
Them: “Let me check….yeah, we’ve got a bunch of ‘em.”
Me: “Cool. What’s the price for a brick?”
Them: “I don’t know, 26 or 28 bucks.” [It actually turned out to be $28.80 when I showed up later.]
I thought, great, that’s barely above the price just after Obama got reelected. Then I called a local gun shop, which did in fact have Federal 200s in stock, and was happily informed their price was $49.95. “And we’ve got a LOT of them.” All I could think was, “Yeah, and at that price you’re going to continue to have a lot of them, too.”
Some companies seem to have gotten the message that the feeding frenzy is over, it’s time to stop bending the customer over and raping them over primer prices. And some companies have not yet gotten the memo.
Needless to say, I bought my primers at Sportco.
